Lutes Road Match Ends in a Draw

FOREST GROVE, ORE. --- The Pacific Lutheran Men's Soccer team played their final regular season game in Oregon on Sunday as they faced the Pacific Boxers and came away with a 1-1 draw.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both squads began the game trading shots, two of which coming from junior Trevor Thompson and senior Craig Johnson. The two Boxer shots were on target but were saved by senior goalkeeper Nicholas Gaston. In the 25th and 28th minutes, the Lutes were given back-to-back yellow cards to freshman Alvin Kamau and junior Christian Pineda.

The two teams ended the first half scoreless, with the Lutes taking four shots to the Boxers five. Both keepers made three saves in the first 45 minutes.

With the second half adjustments, the Lutes came out firing with Thompson finding the crossbar shortly after senior Dane Halle's shot was saved by the Boxers keeper. Pacific broke the scoring open in the 51st minute with a goal getting past Gaston. Gaston managed to save the next Boxers shot in the 67th minute.

In the 71st minute, Johnson drew yet another penalty kick to add to his season total. And similar to his previous attempts this season, Johnson found the back of the net. Johnsons kick tied the match 1-1.

In the final ten minutes of the match, the Lutes began to apply pressure in the offensive zone with shots by Thompson, Johnson, seniors Robby Guyer, Sammy Tafolla, and Alex White. Three of the Lutes six total shots in the closing minutes were on target but were saved by the opposition.

The Lutes outshot the Boxers in the second half 9-3 and in the full game, 13-8. In the corner kicks category, PLU also lead six to one. Gaston made a save on the lone on-target attempt from the Boxers in the final half.
