Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Mark Albanese, Director of Sports Communication

Bigfoot Eludes Lutes, 5-4

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team showed its strength at the top of the lineup in Saturday's home opener but ultimately couldn't match the depth of Community Colleges of Spokane with the Lutes getting edged 5-4 by the Bigfoot inside the Galbraith Tennis Center.

"It was a fun atmosphere with both the men and women playing at the same time. It was really terrific to see them pulling for each other out there," said Head Coach Michael Harmon.

"We battled hard but came up short in a close contest. We were down 1-4 with four singles left and won courts 1 through 3 to even the dual at 4-4. It came down to court four singles and we lost on a third set tiebreaker. It was exciting to see Drew win his debut match after coming over from basketball."

In doubles, Dillon Wells and Drew Kraft earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 but the BIgfoot took No. 2 doubles by an 8-5 scoreline and won No. 3 by default.

Wells etched out a, 6-4, 7-6 (10-6) win at No. 1 singles over Spokane's Joren Hooper while Cody Ahn grinded out a three-set victory at No. 2, prevailing, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Just a week removed from playing on the PLU men's basketball team, Drew Kraft showed no signs of rust, earning a, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, win at No. 3. Spokane won No. 6 singles by default while also winning at No. 4 and No. 5, taking the match clitching win at No. 4 by a razor thin, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7), margin.

The Lutes (0-2) are back on the court tomorrow morning, facing Whitworth University at 10 a.m. in a non-conference dual at the UPS Tennis Pavilion.
