Lutes Power Past Bruins, 3-1

TACOMA, Wash. — Four Lutes finished with double digit kills as the Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team shook off a sluggish start to defeat Northwest Conference rival George Fox University 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-21) on Friday night inside Olson Gymnasium.

The visiting Bruins (12-10, 9-5 NWC) were all business in the first set, scoring the opening three points and four of the first five. Pacific Lutheran (16-6, 11-2 NWC) climbed back into the set, taking the lead at 12-11 on a GFU attack error. A Shaela Allen-Greggs kill put PLU up 21-19 but the Bruins scored the final six points of the set, stealing the first set 25-21.

Set two was tied at 18 before a Claire Hindman kill touched off a 4-0 Lute run. PLU would play with the lead the rest of the set with an Allen-Greggs kill cementing a 25-20 victory.

George Fox led 11-9 in the third before an Allen-Greggs kill sparked an 8-0 Lute run that included three kills from Julissa Pernsteiner. PLU kept its foot on the pedal, scoring the final four points of the set with a Pernsteiner kill giving the hosts the 25-16 set win.

The fourth set was a tight affair before PLU tallied four of the set's final five points with consecutive kills from Hindman and Allen-Greggs tilting the scales 25-21 in favor of PLU to wrap up the match.

"It was a great team win as we had solid nights from everyone," said Head Coach Kevin Aoki.

"We're looking forward to honoring our seven seniors tomorrow night against Pacific."

Allen-Greggs led the Lutes with 15 kills along with four blocks while boasting a .364 hitting percentage. Pernsteiner added 12 kills with Hindman adding 11. Noe Feliciano had a career-high 10 kills on just 21 attacks, netting a .429 attack percentage. Feliciano has been on fire the last two games, netting 18 kills in the two home victories.

Ayre Takamoto tallied 44 of the team's 48 assists on the night while adding 11 digs. Makenna Jackson had a team-best 19 digs while Bailey Johnson had four of PLU's nine aces on the night.
The Lutes are back in action tomorrow evening, hosting Pacific University for Senior Day. Action is slated to begin at 6 p.m. with a Senior Day ceremony at the conclusion of the match.
