Football Drops Road Game to Linfield, 38-10

PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Pacific Lutheran Football team (6-2, 4-1 NWC) travelled to Oregon to face one of the top teams in the Northwest Conference in the Linfield Wildcats, (7-1, 5-0 NWC) falling for the first time in over a month, 38-10.

The Lutes took possession to start the game, as quarterback Darius Chaffin was able to rush for 10-yards to gain a first down on the third play of the game. After crossing into Linfield territory, Chaffin was picked off and the Wildcats returned the ball to the Wildcats 41-yard line. The Linfield drive lasted nine-plays, and went 59-yards, resulting in a touchdown to put the Wildcats up 7-0.

PLU's Andrew Comito was forced to punt on the Lutes next two drives, setting up the Wildcats for a 13-play drive that resulted in a 23-yard field goal. A deep pass from Chaffin was intercepted on the first play of the next drive, setting up the Wildcats near midfield. Then, Linfield's first play of their drive resulted in a 53-yard touchdown pass to take a 17-0 Linfield lead late in the first half.

Following a 60-yard strike from Chaffin to Connor Meade, Chaffin threw his third interception of the half on the Linfield one-yard line. The Lutes regained possession immediately on the next play, intercepting a pass of their own in Linfield territory. Kicker Cole Sargent missed a field goal attempt from 35-yards but was able to connect on a 42-yarder at the end of the half to make it a 17-3 game.

To open the second half, Linfield went 68-yards on seven plays to score a touchdown and move ahead to a 24-3 Linfield lead. The two teams traded punts over the next set of possessions, before Linfield took an 11-play drive into the end zone and further extend the Wildcats lead to 31-3.

Yet another Linfield drive resulted in a score in the Wildcats following possession, but Chaffin and the Lutes answered back at the end of the fourth quarter with a 36-yard scamper into the end zone. The Lutes would go on to drop their second game of the season by a score of 38-10 to Linfield.

PLU had a total of 293 yards on offense, with 287 coming through the air. The Lutes defense was able to force two fumbles in the game, with both being recovered by the Wildcats offense. Chaffin went 21-35 through the air, with 125-yards earned by receiver Jase Ellamar, and 80 coming from Meade. Kalen Davis-White totaled 10 tackles in the game, with Nico Golla earning a pair of sacks for a total of 13-yards lost.

The Lutes close out the season next weekend at Sparks Stadium, as they look to retain The Trophy, in a matchup against cross-town rival Puget Sound at 1 p.m.
