Volleyball Rolls Up Pios, 3-0

PORTLAND, Ore. —  The Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team dialed up 15 aces on Saturday night, blowing past Northwest Conference rival Lewis & Clark College 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-18) inside the Pamplin Sports Center.

Five different Lutes served up aces on the night, powering PLU to its second three set sweep of the weekend.

"It was a very production night for us and it was great to have all 17 players get some action," said Head Coach Kevin Aoki.

"We're looking forward to our match at home versus Puget Sound on Tuesday night and hope to see our fans pack ther gym."

PLU (9-8, 7-3 NWC) never trailed in the opening set, scoring four of the first five points. A Macy Matsushima ace made it a 20-13 Lute lead before the Pioneers (0-17, 0-10 NWC) battled back, closing within two at 22-20. Two kills from Alexis Eggert and another from Julissa Pernsteiner sealed the Lute win, prevailing 25-22 in the first set. 

The Lutes ripped off 10 consecutive points in the second set, turning a 4-3 scoreline into a 14-3 rout. Bailey Johnson engineered the run, serving up three aces during the spurt. Pacific Lutheran would get a set clinching kill from Mary Magoun, cruising to a 25-12 set win. 

PLU scored the first five points of the third set and seven of the first eight, leading wire-to-wire in a 25-18 set win.

Eggert and Shaela Allen-Greggs both finished with eight kills on 15 attacks, both boasting a .400 attack percentage. Ayre Takamoto had 21 assists while Matsushima led the team with 10 digs. Matsushima and Johnson led the Lutes with four aces apiece while Savanna Colliado had three.

The Lutes are back on the floor on Tuesday evening, hosting University of Puget Sound inside Olson Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
