TACOMA, Wash. — Shaela Allen-Greggs was virtually unstoppable on Saturday evening, fueling the Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-21) sweep of Northwest Conference rival Pacific University and extending the Lutes' home winning streak inside Olson Gymnasium to nine matches.
PLU (7-6, 5-1 NWC) owned a slim 14-12 lead in the opening set before ripping off eight straight points, including a trio of kills from Allen-Greggs to build a 22-12 advantage. The Boxers (4-7, 1-5 NWC) had a late run of six straight points but a service error gave PLU the 25-20 set win.
Pacific scored the first point of the second set but it was all Lutes after that, posting the 25-16 set win. The Boxers surged to a 7-2 lead in the third but it wasn't;t enough as the Lutes scored the final five points of the set to prevail 25-21 and earn the sweep.
"We really played well tonight and took control from the first set," said Head Coach
Kevin Aoki.
"We're looking forward to playing the Whits next weekend in eastern Washington."
Allen-Greggs had 15 kills on 27 attacks, boasting a .519 attack percentage and committing just one error. Alexis Eggety was equally impressive with 11 kills with
Ayre Takamoto quarterbacking the offense with 35 assists and 11 digs.
Macy Matsushima had a team-high 14 digs with
Savanna Colliado contributing 10.Â
The Lutes hit the road next week, taking conference leading Whitworth University on Friday in Spokane. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
