PUYALLUP, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University football team flexed its muscles against Northwest Conference rival George Fox University, racking up 616 offensive yards in a 55-21 blowout at Sparks Stadium to wrap up the 2025 season.
Jacob Schuh was the star of the day, rumbling for 285 yards and three touchdowns on senior day, averaging 11.4 yards per touch and becoming the first Lute since 2014 to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season. Schuh's 1,105 yards this season ranks third on the all-time rushing list and is the best single season effort that didn't benefit from an extended playoff run.Â
"Offensively we played our most complete game of the year. O-line fought for a full 60 minutes, Schuh emptied his tank and found hidden yards throughout the entire game, receivers made plays in space, and did a great job blocking on the outside. And best of all, the guys played for each other, played for the seniors, and represented this program to the highest standard," said Head Coach
Brant McAdams.
"Defensively, our guys played with passion and tenacity all game. All 11 hats to the ball on every play, flying around the field. The guys battled and never backed down to any challenge they faced. They played their 1/11th and simply did their job."
Kawika Bacos had his head on a swivel in the first quarter, scooping up a Bruin fumble at the George Fox 15-yard line and running it back to the one yard line. Quarterback
Anthony Mahaffey took it from there, plunging in from a yard out to make it 7-0. Schuh made it 14-0 the following possession, scampering 83-yards to the endzone.Â
George Fox (4-6, 4-3 NWC) got on the board with 2:33 left in the first quarter, capitalizing on an interception and covering 13 yards to the endzone but the Lutes (6-4, 5-2 NWC) responded the next drive with a five-yard Schuh run capping off a nine-play, 66-yard drive to make it 21-7 early in the second.Â
Wide receiver
Jase Ellamar setup the Lutes next score, launching a pass to fellow receiver
AJ Stepina, a 62-yard competition that put the Lutes on the Bruin 13-yard line. Another Stepina catch put PLU at the one yard line before Mahaffey plunged in for the score. Ellamar would haul in a 44-yard touchdown pass the next drive, upping PLU's lead to 35-7.Â
The Bruins scored with 15 seconds left before halftime and trailed 35-14 at the break, a deficit that only grew after the Lutes scored on their first drive of the second half. That drive was all Schuh. The senior wrecking ball ran for 75 yards taking the Lutes from the PLU 16 to the Bruin nine-yard line before scoring the next play.Â
Schuh would toss a touchdown pass with 10:56 left in the third, finding
Jake Wood uncovered in the endzone to make it 48-21 while
Darius Chaffin scrambled in from 17-yards out with 20 seconds left, capping off an 82-yard drive and giving PLU the 55-21 victory to secure third place in the NWC standings.
Pacific Lutheran had a field day, outgaining George Fox 616 to 280 with 329 of those yards coming on the ground. The Lutes scored on all six of their red zone chances and was nearly perfect on third down situations, going nine-for-11.Â
Mahaffey finished the day with 189 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 12 of his 17 attempts. Ellamar was the top target, grabbing six catches for 113 yards and a score while Stepina had two catches for 74 yards and
Dayton Savea had two for 51. Chaffin had 41 yards on the ground in addition to Schuh's 285.
Cole Becker was everywhere on Saturday, collecting 15 tackles, including nine solo, with a sack.
Avery Coleman had 10 tackles while
Eli Fernandez and
Jackson Hale both had seven.
Saturday was senior day with the team honoring its 22 seniors that have finished each of the last four years with a winning record in conference play. The 2025 seniors boast a 24-16 overall record and have gone 19-9 in league play over the past four years.Â
"I loved seeing our guys have each other's back and show a genuine and authentic love for their successes. We won the sideline, and all 110 made PLU proud today. That's a direct reflection of this senior class and the standard that they set for this program. They are champions and they showed that today. We're so fortunate for this senior class. They certainly left the program better than they found it."
