Men's Soccer Downs Boxers for 6th Straight Win

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Two first half goals set the table for another victory on Sunday afternoon as the two-time defending Northwest Conference Champion Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team extended its unbeaten run to 15 games and remains in the hunt for another league title after a 2-1 victory over host Pacific University.

The win was the Lutes' sixth straight victory, a stretch PLU (12-3-3, 11-0-3 NWC) has outscored its opponents by a combined 21-8 margin.

Yuta Shimazu had a foot in both goals for the Lutes. Shimazu tallied an unassisted goal in the 11th minute, his sixth goal of the 2025 campaign. Owen Bliskis doubled the Lute lead just under seven minutes later, scoring his conference-leading 13th goal of the year off a feed from Shimazu. It was Shimazu's sixth helper of the year.

The Boxers (4-9-5, 4-7-4 NWC) broke up the shutout in the 40th minute, getting a goal from Andy Landy in what proved to be the final goal of the game.

Landon Gordon tallied seven saves in 90 minutes of work in goal while his counterpart, Kobi Miyamoto, made seven stops and allowed two goals for Pacific.

"Happy to get 6 points on the road.  No matter how you get there that qualifies as a good weekend," said Head Coach John Yorke.

"We had a great start to the game. Pacific made some great adjustments and the game was difficult. I was proud of our guys and the way they battled in the second half to preserve the win."

The Lutes close out the regular season next weekend and control their own destiny, hosting Whitworth University on Saturday and NWC leading Whitman College on Sunday. Both games at East Field kickoff at 1:45 p.m.
