Boxers Rally Past Lutes in Non-Conference Clash

TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team was even with Pacific University after 30 minutes of play but the Boxers earned separation early in the second half, downing the host Lutes 13-7 at East Field.

"Today we saw a lot of things come together and start to click for us," said Head Coach Melanie Rizzotti.

"All across the field we had players stepping up in big ways. One of them was our goalie Kassie who made some big saves and had an impressive 59 percent save percentage."

Taylee Alldredge needed just over three minutes to score the game's first goal, scoring unassisted to extend her scoring streak to seven games. The visiting Boxers (2-5) tallied the next four goals, including tying the game just 59 seconds after Alldredge's opening salvo.

Pacific Lutheran (1-6) answered the Boxer scoring spurt with a run of its own, scoring five unanswered goals over a seven minute stretch. Alldredge tallied her second goal of the day with 4:39 left in the first quarter before assisting on Katrina Moran's goal, the sophomore's fifth of the season, with 38 ticks left in the opening quarter.

Issabella Marchio tied the game at four 79 seconds into the second quarter while Alldredge struck twice in quick succession, first at 13:25 and again 44 seconds later to give the Lutes a 6-4 cushion.

Pacific scored two more times in the second with the score deadlocked at the halftime intermission. The Boxers scored right off the draw in the third quarter and outscored the hosts 7-1 over the final two quarters to cement the win.

Alldredge finished with four goals and one assist, bringing her goal tally to 18 on the young season. Annie Latimer, the team's assist leader, tallied the squads lone score of the second half, finding the back of the net with 4:08 remaining in the third quarter.

Alldredge tallied six of PLU's 26 ground balls on the day while Gracie Cecka scooped up five and had one caused turnover.

Kassie Diller had a great game in goal, playing all 60 minutes and racking up a season-high 19 saves with a .593 save percentage.

Wednesday's clash was PLU's final non-conference game of the season, The Lutes take the weekend off before opening Northwest Conference action on Saturday, April 5, hosting Willamette University. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
