TACOMA, Wash. — Alex Eggert and
Haley Goto were a menace all night for visiting George Fox University as the host Pacific Lutheran University volleyball squad remained undefeated in Northwest Conference play with a 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-16, 25-12) victory on Saturday inside Olson Gymnasium.
"We played really well as a team but both middles had outstanding nights," said Head Coach
Kevin Aoki.
"Credit goes to our passers and servers, which caused George Fox to be out of system for much of the night."
The match was tied after two sets but the Lutes (4-5, 2-0 NWC) were absolutely dominant over the final two sets, earning a pair of wire-to-wire set wins to extend the team's win streak to three.
George Fox (3-6, 0-3 NWC) scored the first two points of the night but the Lutes responded with 10 of the next 11. The Bruins narrowed the gap to 18-17 but PLU surged ahead, finishing off the set on a 7-1 run to prevail 25-18.
GFU scored seven of the first nine in the second set but the Lutes battled back, tying the set at 18 on a
Je T'aime Paio ace. The Bruins answered with the next four points and seven of the final eight, stealing set two 25-19.
Savanna Colliado had two aces to open the third, giving PLU an early 4-0 lead en route to the wire-to-wire 25-16 victory. Pacific Lutheran was even more dialed in during the fourth, scoring seven of the first 10 points and running away with a 25-12 set victory.
Eggert led the Lutes with 16 kills on 33 attacks in addition to six blocks while Goto had a dozen kills on just 17 attempts and no errors, boasting a mind boggling .706 attack percentage.
Samia Rudd and
Shaela Allen-Greggs both had eight kills.
Ayre Takamoto had 47 of the squad's 55 assists while also adding 17 digs.
Macy Matsushima had a team-best 20 digs while Colliado added 11.
The Lutes hit the road on Tuesday, making the short drive across town for a showdown with University of Puget Sound. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
