Lutes Sweep George Fox to Secure Ninth NWC Win

NEWBERG, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's volleyball team continued its strong Northwest Conference season Saturday evening, sweeping George Fox University 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) at Wheeler Sports Center/Miller Gym.

The Lutes improved to 16-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play with the victory, while the Bruins fell to 4-14 overall and 2-9 in the NWC.

PLU took control in the opening set, using an offensive attack to pull away from George Fox and secure a 25-19 win. The Lutes recorded 11 kills in the set and capitalized on nine attack errors by the Bruins to take an early 1-0 advantage.

The Lutes carried that momentum into the second set, delivering their strongest offensive performance of the match. PLU recorded 18 kills, building on its first-set success to earn another 25-19 victory and move within one set of the sweep.

George Fox put up its strongest fight in the third set, recording 17 kills and keeping the score close throughout. The Bruins threatened to extend the match, but the Lutes held their composure down the stretch to close out the set 25-23 and complete the sweep.

Alexis Eggert led the Lutes offensively with 15 kills. Julissa Pernsteiner added eight kills, while Shaela Allen-Greggs contributed seven. Ayre Takamoto orchestrated the offense with 36 assists and added four kills.

Defensively, Macy Matsushima led PLU with 11 digs, while Savanna Colliado and Madi Mulipola each finished with 10. Eggert paced the Lutes at the net with four block assists, and Mary Magoun added three block assists. Mulipola also contributed two service aces.

The Lutes will be back in action Tuesday, taking on crosstown rival University of Puget Sound at 7 p.m. in Tacoma. PLU students are reminded that they receive free admission to the match, even when the Lutes take on the Loggers at home.
