FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team secured a 1-0 road victory over Pacific University on Sunday afternoon at Hanson Stadium, using a second-half goal from Misha Turchaninov and a strong defensive effort to earn its eighth Northwest Conference win of the season.
The Lutes improved to 10-2-2 overall and 8-1-1 in conference play, while the Boxers fell to 2-5-7 overall and 2-3-7 in the NWC.
Both teams battled through a scoreless first half, with each side recording six shots. PLU created several opportunities but was unable to find the back of the net before halftime.
The breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Turchaninov scored to give the Lutes a 1-0 lead. Turchaninov led PLU with five shots, all of which were on target, and delivered the decisive goal to put the visitors in front.
PLU continued to pressure the Boxers throughout the second half, recording nine shots after the break while limiting Pacific to just one. The Lutes' defensive unit held firm for the remainder of the match, preserving the shutout and securing the road win.
The Lutes return to action this Wednesday to take on their crosstown rivals, the University of Puget Sound Loggers. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
