Second Half Goals Power Lutes Past River Otters

PORTLAND, Ore. — The floodgates opened in the second half as the Northwest Conference leading Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team blasted host Lewis & Clark College 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.

Despite a 10-0 edge in shots, the Lutes (6-1-2, 4-0-1 NWC) were unable to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of play, entering the halftime intermission in a scoreless deadlock with the River Otters (1-8, 1-5 NWC).

It didn't take long to draw blood in the second half with Connor O'Brien scoring just 68 seconds into the second half off a pass from Jean Dadie. It was O'Brien's team-leading sixth goal of the 2026 campaign.

Misha Turchaninov tallied his first goal of the season just seven minutes later, making it 2-0 in the 54th minute thanks to another feed from Dadie. Gavin Murphy made it 3-0 in the 69th minute, scoring his second goal of the season with Ryan Vu credited with the assist.

Owen Harned tacked on an insurance score in the 78th minute, scoring his first goal of the season at the back post on a corner kick with Isak Medhaug and Valentijn Belder earning assists.

PLU dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Lewis & Clark 23-3, including nine of the 11 shots on target while taking all 11 corner kicks in the game.

Landon Gordon and Gio Aguilar-Gutierrez split time in goal to earn the clean sheet. Gordon made the start with Aguilar-Gutierrez making the two saves of the day.

"We did a good job of establishing how we wanted to play in the first half. We pretty much did everything we wanted to try and establish aside from scoring. We made a slight adjustment to start the second half and we were able to find the goal four times," said Head Coach John Yorke.

"I thought our guys played very well. A good solid performance from the whole team and it was nice to see some different guys get on the scoreboard and contribute goals and assists."

The Lutes have allowed just one goal over the past seven games, outscoring conference foes 11-1 over the first five games of NWC play.

Pacific Lutheran wraps up its road trip on Sunday, facing Linfield University in McMinnville, Oregon. Kickoff is slated for noon.
