TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University baseball team scored early and often on Wednesday afternoon, scoring a 13-3 mercy rule victory over Northwest Conference rival George Fox University.

"I thought Reese and McNeely led the way offensively and Becker did a good job on the back end out of the pen. We also played good defense as well," said Head Coach
Nolan Soete.
The Lutes (6-8, 4-5 NWC) struck first, plating a trio of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Ethan Keintz drew a leadoff walk, later scoring on an
Asa Reese double. Reese and Carson later scored to make it 3-0 on a throwing error by the Bruin catcher.

Kaleb McNeely added to the lead in the bottom of the second, belting a solo home run over the right center field fence.
The Bruins (7-14, 5-7 NWC) got on the board in the third inning, scratching across a run but the Lutes answered with another run in the bottom of the frame with a
Rutger Youch double scoring Reese.

PLU piled on two more in the fifth, building a 7-1 lead. Burke scored on a Bruin error before a
Braeden Lundberg single plated Reese.

George Fox scored in the sixth but the Lutes piled it on in the bottom of the frame, pushing the lead to 12-2 with RBI hits from McNeely and
Rochne Beecham.
The Bruins scored in the seventh but a McNeely single in the eighth scored
Braeden Lundberg, enacting the mercy rule as the Lutes padded its lead to double digits.

McNeely led the Lutes, going three-for-four with three RBIs while Reese had two hits, two RBIs, while scoring three runs.Â

Alex Lopex tossed the opening two innings, striking out three and allowing no runs.
Chris Moreno handled the next three, registering the win.
Matthew Sherwood threw 1 2/3 innings with
Cole Becker tossing a scoreless eighth.Â

The Lutes resume their homestand on Saturday, opening a four game series with NWC rival Willamette University. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.Â
