Baseball Rocks Crosstown Rivals, 11-2

TACOMA, Wash. — Braeden Lundberg went yard on the fifth pitch of the game, setting the stage for the Pacific Lutheran University baseball team's 11-2 rout of host University of Puget Sound in a non-conference clash on Wednesday afternoon.

PLU (11-19) cranked out 12 hits, including two home runs, while striking out 10 to cruise to the midweek win.

"It was a good team effort today," said Head Coach Nolan Soete.

"Our pitching staff did a great job commanding the zone and we had a big offensive day from Lundberg, Yarger, Keintz, and Burke."

Lundberg got things started with a solo home run with one out in the top of the first inning. PLU piled on three more runs in the second inning with Carson Burke and Kyle Tat touching home after Grayson Meier reached on an error. An Ethan Keintz single scored Tyler Yarger, boosting the Lute lead to 4-0.

Yarger singled in Tat in the third inning while another Keintz single scored Yarger, making it 6-0 PLU in the fifth inning.

Carson Burke blasted a two-run home run in the seventh inning while the Lutes tacked on three more in the ninth to make it 11-0. Hayden Kaiser scored on a wild pitch before a Lundberg double played both Yarger and Burke.

The host Loggers (19-13) got on the board in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run home run but it wasn't enough as Pacific Lutheran cruised to the 11-2 win.

Keintz finished three-for-five at the plate with two RBIs while Lundberg had two hits and three RBIs. Tat, Burke, and Yarger all scored three runs.

PLU utilized seven pitchers with the crew combining for 10 strikeouts. Matthew Sherwood tossed the opening inning before turning to Wyatt Norris who retired the side in order in the second, including two by strikeout. Connor Tutino and Logan Egge both tossed two innings, both allowing just one hit while Egge fanned three. Andrew Hickman struck out two in the seventh while Cole Becker struck out three in the eighth. Chris Moreno closed the game, facing five batters in the ninth.

The Lutes resume Northwest Conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader against Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
