TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's and women's cross country squads announced the addition of Assistant Coach Daryl Martin.

"I'm so excited to join the coaching staff at PLU! Running has always been a huge passion of mine, and I look forward to sharing that passion with the men's and women's teams."

 A local standout, Martin was a two-time WIAA 4A state champion as a member of the Bellarmine Prep 4x400-meter relay team, and was a three-time state finalist in the 800-meters and 1,600-meters. Martin also finished eighth at the 2012 WIAA 4A Cross Country Championships. 
 
She continued her running career a Division I University of San Francisco where she ran track & field and cross country all four years for the Dons. Martin competed all four years at the West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships, finishing 25th as a senior in 2016 while racing at the 2015 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, helping USF finish 28th as a team. 

"I'm excited for Daryl to join our coaching staff. She's a passionate runner who has had success on the high school, collegiate, and post-collegiate running scene. I look forward to working with her and for both our men's and women's teams to benefit from her expertise," said Head Coach Francis Reynolds. 

Martin graduated from San Francisco with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in neuroscience. 

Martin and the Lutes open the season on Friday in Oregon at the Lewis & Clark XC Opener at McIver State Park.
