High School: served as team captain as a junior and senior...batted .391 with two homers and 15 runs batted in as a junior and .490 with eight homers and 23 RBI in 14 league games as a senior, when he led the league in total bases (57) and slugging (1.102)...as a junior, named team MVP and honorable mention all-league...as a senior, was one of four infielders named first-team 4A all-state...also named team MVP, first-team all-league and all-area as a senior...played three seasons of varsity football as a quarterback, earned team MVP and honorable mention all-league...led summer team, Buzz Baseball, to a third-place national finish as an 18-year old, when he batted .518...also won the state title as a 16-year old, when he hit .523...named a Sports Illustrated national athlete of the week after going 5-for-5 with four home runs, a double and 11 RBI in a game vs. Kent-Meridian...graduated with a 3.76 grade point average.
