Tyler Copp

Tyler Copp returns to Pacific Lutheran University in the summer of 2022 as the new Head Coach for the men’s and women’s golf programs. Copp previously served as an assistant coach for the men's basketball program during the 2017-2018 season and will reprise his role as an assistant for the program in addition to his golf coaching duties.

Copp returns to PLU with considerable experience as a collegiate coach and in the golfing industry. Copp has five years of collegiate coaching experience at the Division I and Division III levels while boasting four years of experience working at both the Trysting Tree Golf Club and The Home Course.

“We’re excited to welcome back Tyler to the Lute family,” said Athletic Director Mike Snyder.

“Tyler’s vision for the men’s and women’s golf programs along with his experience in both the golf industry and in collegiate coaching make him the ideal candidate to continue to grow both programs. I’m looking forward to seeing Tyler elevate the student-athlete experience and continue to build both the men’s and women’s teams into nationally competitive programs.”

A competitive amateur golfer, Copp has played in multiple tournaments across the Pacific Northwest and is undergoing the Professional Golf Management Associate Program through The Home Course in Dupont, Washington.

Copp worked at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Oregon for the past three years while working at The Home Course in 2017-2018.

“I owe a big thank you to Mike Snyder for believing in my vision for the men’s and women’s golf programs,” said Copp.

“My youthful energy and passion for the game of golf is second to none. I’m fortunate to inherit rosters with high-level student-athletes as we pursue continued academic excellence, conference championships, and national prominence.”

No stranger to PLU, Copp served as an assistant coach for the Lutes’ men’s basketball program during the 2017-2018 season, helping lay the groundwork with Head Coach Chad Murray on a program that won its first Northwest Conference title since 1986 this winter.

In addition to coaching with the Lutes, Copp spent the previous four years at the Division I level with Oregon State University. Copp started in 2018 as the Director of Video before being promoted to the Director of Player Personnel in 2020. His time at OSU saw the Beavers win the Pac 12 Conference Tournament and advance to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2021.

Copp was a four-year starter on the basketball court for Division II Saint Martin’s University, serving as team captain for three seasons. He was an Honorable Mention All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection in 2017, finishing his career with 1,108 points. Copp averaged 16.3 points per game in his senior campaign, guiding the Saints to their first ever GNAC Tournament appearance.

Copp graduated from SMU in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
