John Campbell joins the men's tennis program as Head Coach prior to the 2018-2019 academic year. He will also serve as an assistant for the women's program. 

"We're excited to have John join our department as our new men's tennis coach. John's extensive experience and knowledge in tennis in a variety of settings, from juniors to camps and clinics, will be a huge asset to our program," said Athletic Director Laurie Turner.

"His familiarity and network in the Northwest will allow him to hit the ground running and provide the continuity and stability to create a positive student-athlete experience."

Campbell joins the Lute family after serving the previous three years as the Director of Tennis at the Steamboat Tennis and Athletic Club in Olympia, Washington. Prior to his appointment at Steamboat, Campbell spent three years at the Capitol City Tennis and Athletic Center in Tumwater, Washington as the owner and facility director. 

"I'm very excited for the opportunity to become a part of the PLU community," said Campbell. "I've had a passion for playing and coaching tennis my whole life, and I can't think of a better way to continue, than to get a chance to work with college students." 

Campbell additionally worked as the Director of Tennis at Canterwood Golf and Country Club in Gig Harbor, was a staff professional at John Gardiners Tennis Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona, and served as an associate coach for both the men's and women's tennis teams at Division I Montana State University. Campbell additionally spent over 20 years working as a the regional manager at Bally's Total Fitness/TCA. His coaching resume includes guiding regionally and nationally competitive adult teams while also serving as a tournament director for several junior tournaments in the Pacific Northwest. 

"My vision is for PLU to be a top of conference team with great players who are great people, for the next 10 years and beyond. PLU has a rich tradition of great tennis teams and we plan to get back to that level and stay there."

A United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) certified coach at the elite level, Campbell graduated with a degree in business from Montana State University.
