A two-time Olympian, Duncan Atwood joined the PLu track & field coaching staff prior to the 2017 season.

Atwood previously served as a volunteer coach at his alma mater the University of Washington. He served as a consultant for USATF High Performance from 1998-2008 and was a clinician at prestigious Ironwood Throws Camp for 26 years.

As an athlete, Atwood was a three-time US National Champion (1979, 1980, and 1987), a two-time Olympic Team member, a two time Pan-American Games Gold Medalist, a two-time Pacific Eight Conference (now Pac 12) Champion, and a high school national champion in the javelin. Atwood competed internationally for 10 years and earned a high world ranking of third in 1985.

Atwood earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 1978 and earned his MBA in marketing in 1986, both from Washington.
