Geoff Loomis

Geoff Loomis took the reins of the Pacific Lutheran baseballprogram prior to the 2003 season. The 11th head coach in theprogram's history, Loomis accomplished in both 2007 and 2009what no others have, leading the Lutes to the Northwest Conferencechampionship. The 2007 crown was the program's first conferencetitle of any kind in 53 years, while the 2009 championship wasshared with George Fox University.

In Loomis' first 12 seasons at PLU the Lutes have averagednearly 25 wins per season, an astounding mark considering thatprior to his arrival only one Pacific Lutheran team in programhistory had compiled that many wins in a season. Additionally, histeams have rewritten many of the team and individualseason and career offensive records. During their conference titlerun in 2007, the Lutes established numerous school marks andtop-10 list placements, and the 2009 team broke 10 team offensiverecords. Most significantly, Loomis led the 2007 Lutes to a 35-9overall record, shattering the old PLU single-season record of 26wins set in 1994. His 2009 team ended up with 31 wins, and the 2010squad finished with 30 victories.

In addition to coaching at Pacific Lutheran, Loomis coached theAloha Knights for five seasons, leading that team to consecutivePacific International League division titles, including a clubrecord 54-14 mark in 2001. In 2004, the team won the NationalBaseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan. Loomis was namedNational Manager of the Year by the National Baseball Congress. Healso was an assistant coach at George Fox University for fiveseasons (1996-2000).

Loomis played his collegiate baseball at the University ofPortland, where he earned Pac-10 Player of the Year honors in 1992and All-Pac-10 recognition in 1991 and 1992. He was selected in the1992 free agent draft by Oakland and played in the Athletics' minorleague system from 1992-94. He was named Oakland A's affiliateMinor League Player of the Year in 1993.

Following his playing career, Loomis returned to the Universityof Portland where he earned his bachelor's degree in businessadministration in 1994. He earned a master's degree in teachingfrom Pacific University (Ore.) in 1997, and was a business teacherat David Douglas High School in Portland, Ore., prior to coming toPacific Lutheran.

In addition to coaching the Pacific Lutheran baseball team,Loomis is also an assistant athletic director. His duties includegame management at other PLU athletic events.

Loomis and his wife, Anna, have two daughters, Bryn and Addison,and a son, Cooper, and live in Puyallup. Anna is a 1993 graduate ofPacific Lutheran University.
