Marqui Makupson

Marqui Makupson joined the Pacific Lutheran track & field coaching staff at the beginning of the 2015-2016 season. Since joining the Lute coaching staff, Makupson has developed five Northwest Conference Champions, 28 All-Conference selections, four qualifiers for the NCAA Division III Championships, and two National Champions. 

Makupson coached six All-Conference athletes in his first season in 2016, helping the 4x100 meter relay team and Richard Johnson (100 meters) win league titles. Makupson had four All-Conference athletes in 2017 while boasting seven All-Conference athletes in 2018 along with Carson Ketter winning the 100-meter dash title and qualifying for nationals in the 100 and 200. Makupson had nine All-Conference athletes in 2019, including Imani Keyes who competed at the NCAA Championships in the 200. 

In 2021, Makupson coached Bailey Forsyth to NWC and NCAA titles in both the 100-meters and 200-meters. Forsyth was PLU's first national champion since 2018 and the first Lute track & field athlete to win two national titles at the same NCAA meet. 

Makupson competed for PLU from 2012 to 2015, serving as a team captain as a junior and senior. He was the 2012 Northwest Conference Champion in the triple jump and the NWC Champion in the 100-meter dash in 2014. Makupson finished his career ranked in PLU's all-time performance list in the 100-meters, 4x100-meter relay, and the triple jump. 

Makupson holds a Strength and Conditioning certification along with a Sprint, Hurdle, and Relay Specialist Certification from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
