Trey Henderson joined the PLU track & field staff prior to the 2018 season as a throws coach and was elevated to the head coach in the summer of 2022.

Henderson's squad won five Northwest Conference Championships in 2024, headlined by Grady Lemma winning both the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles at the conference meet. The 2024 Lutes had six student-athletes earn All-Region honors and 11 total Lutes secure All-Conference accolades. Two Lutes qualified for the NCAA Championships with Carson Olmstead landing All-American accolades in the javelin. 

Henderson's first season as Head Coach in 2023 saw the men's and women's team's both finish third at the Northwest Conference Championships. The Lutes had three conference champions and two NCAA qualifiers with Ava Nelson becoming the program's first four-year NCAA All-American. Henderson's squad also had five student-athletes secure All-Region honors. 

In his five years on staff as a throws coach, Henderson coached two national champions, six All-Americans, and eight Northwest Conference Champions. That includes boasting three conference champions at the 2022 NWC Championships and coaching 2022 javelin national champion Ava Nelson.

Working with the throwers, Henderson coached Machaela Graddy to an NWC and national title in the javelin in 2018, improving her PR from 135' 4" to a school record 150' 3". In 2019, Henderson coached Ava Nelson to an NWC title and All-American honors, boasting the third best javelin throw in NCAA Division III while also coaching Emily Reeder to All-American honors in the hammer throw, boasting the eighth best throw in Division III. Henderson's women's throwers accounting for 37 of the Lutes' 132 points at the 2019 NWC Championships. 

In 2021, Henderson coached one All-American, two NCAA qualifiers, and three NWC Champions. Ava Nelson won the NWC title in the javelin and ended the year as an All-American while Seth Bridge won the NWC title in the hammer throw and was an NCAA qualifier in both the shot put and discus. Katelyn Harris additionally won the NWC crown in the hammer throw.

A 2012 graduate of the University of Southern California, Henderson was a two-time All-American for the Trojans in the hammer throw. Henderson won the Pac 10 Championship in in the hammer in both 2010 and 2011, finishing as an All-American in the event both years. Henderson additionally earned a silver medal in 2011 for Canada at the National Championships and earned bronze in 2010 at the U23 NACAC Championships. A four-year member on the track & field team, Henderson served as team captain for one season. He additionally played two seasons for the Rose Bowl-winning USC football team.

Henderson owns a Bachelor of Arts degree in social sciences with an emphasis in psychology. After college, Henderson trained under former world record holder and renowned coach Anatoliy Bondarchuk from 2012 to 2017.Â
