Wayne Gibson came to PLU as a men's basketball assistant coach prior to the 2012-13 season. Prior to coming to PLU, Gibson coached high school, junior college, NAIA and NCAA Division II and Division I basketball for a total of 17 years.
Gibson served as an assistant coach at Olympic College for seven years, head coach at Ferndale High School for four years, assistant coach at Western Washington University for one year, assistant coach at the University of Washington for one year, and assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for four years. During this time, he was selected as Coach of the Year for all sports in Whatcom County in 1975, and the Green Bay team went to the Final Four in Division II in 1981.
Currently, Gibson is the owner and president of Unlimited Potential, a national firm specializing in leadership, team development, strategies, and action planning. He has been in this position for the past 28 years.
Gibson lives in Gig Harbor with his wife Dana. They have four children: David, Carly, Ryan, and Ali.
