Scott Westering

Scott Westering has compiled a 69-50 overall record in 13 seasons as Pacific Lutheran University football head coach. Named to the position in February 2004, Scott took over for his father, Frosty, who served as PLU football head coach for 32 years.

Scott joined the coaching staff in 1981 and became the offensive coordinator two years later. During his coaching career, PLU has won three NAIA Division II and one NCAA Division III national championships and finished as the runner-up four times in 10 post-season appearances. In 2012, Scott led the Lutes to a 7-3 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs. He has coached 11 first-team All-Americans, including the 1999 NCAA Division III Player of the Year, Chad Johnson, and the Most Valuable Player of the 1999 national championship team, Anthony Hicks.

Scott played football at UCLA for one year before transferring to PLU, where he was a captain and All-America tight end on the 1980 NAIA national title team. Westering later had tryouts with the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers and was inducted into the PLU Hall of Fame in 1998.

Scott earned his bachelor's degree in 1982 and his master's degree in 2002, both from PLU. He is also a physical education instructor at PLU.

Westering and his wife, Susan, an aerobics instructor at PLU, are the parents of three children, daughters Jordan and Jessi, and son, Kellen. The Westerings live in Puyallup.
