Aubrey Pocklington, the two-time Class 1A Player of the Year who
led Montesano High School to consecutive state championships,
heads a list of 14 players in the 2009-10 Pacific Lutheran softball
recruiting class.
Erin Van Nostrand, in her second season as PLU softball head
coach, has announced a highly decorated class that includes eight
all-state players and two college transfers, one of whom played for
her at Pine Manor College in the Boston area.
"I'm very excited about this recruiting class," Van Nostrand
said. "This group will make us more athletic and even more
competitive in our conference and region."
Following is a summary of the players that have verbally
indicated their intention to play softball at Pacific Lutheran
University:
Aubree Pocklington, catcher, Montesano High
School, Montesano, Wash.
Led her high school team to back-to-back state championship
(2008-09) while twice earning 1A Player of the Year
honors.
Ramona Lorton, pitcher, Centralia High School,
Centralia, Wash.
Two-time all-state honoree. Named fastpitch Co-Player of the Year
by The Olympian. Had a 1.48 earned-run average and
struck out 133 batters. The Evergreen Conference co-MVP also batted
.452 and had a school-record 34 RBI, leading the Tigers to the
regular-season EvCo title and a state berth.
Haley Harshaw, middle infielder, Columbia River
High School, Vancouver, Wash.
2009 1st team all-state and 3A Greater St. Helens League
Player of the Year.
Lexi Orteza, Infielder, Olympic High School,
Bremerton, Wash.
2009 1st team all-state, 2009 Kitsap County Female
Athlete of the Year and Olympic League Co-MVP.
Monte Califano, middle infielder, Liberty High
School, Renton, Wash.
2009 all-state and all-league.
Glenelle Nitta, Outfielder, Mililani High
School, Mililani, Hawaii
Helped her high School team win the 2009 state championship. 2008
and 2009 all-state outfielder after earning honorable mention
all-state in 2007; 2007 OIA West All Star.
Lauren Watson, First base, Jesuit High
School, Portland, Ore.
2009 Oregon all-state and first team All-Metro League.
Ally VanSchoorl, pitcher, Olympia High School,
Olympia, Wash.
First team All-Narrows League and an
all-area selection, VanSchoorl had 179 strikeouts in 137
innings pitched. She sported a 1.57 earned-run average and helped
lead the Bears into the Class 4A district tournament.
Katie Hanten, catcher, Central Kitsap High
School, Silverdale, Wash.
Two-time first team All-Narrows League and 2009 All-Kitsap County.
Kaaren Hatlen, pitcher/first base, Woodinville
High School, Woodinville, Wash.
2009 first team All-Kingco 4A.
Lauren Watson, first base, Jesuit High School,
Portland, Ore.
2009 Oregon all-state and first team All-Metro League.
Katie Hargadon, utility, Presentation High
School, Morgan Hill, Calif.
2009 first team All-West Catholic Athletic League selection and
helped lead the Panthers to the Central Coast Section Division II
title game.
Krista Zappone, utility, Pierce College,
Shadle Park High School, Spokane, Wash.
Two-time NWAACC all-star.
