FOREST GROVE - Pacific University scored the only goal of the match in 73rd minute to defeat Pacific Lutheran, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match played here Sunday afternoon.
The shutout was the second of the weekend and fourth of the year for the fourth-place Boxers (8-7-3 overall, 8-4-2 conference), and for the Lutes (3-13-1, 3-10-1) it marked the eight time this season that they have been shut out by an opponent. The Lutes fell to eighth place in the conference standings.
Pacific Lutheran out-shot the host Boxers by a 10-5 margin in the first half, but by the end of the match the Boxers held an 18-16 advantage.
Neither team was able to find the goal until Kaitlyn Harper broke the deadlock with her goal in the 73rd minute. Harper shot the ball from 30 yards out and found the net above the reach of PLU goalkeeper Lauren Chambard.
Brittany Hartmann made five saves for the Boxers to keep Pacific Lutheran off the board, while Chambard and Ivory Harvey combined to make six saves.
Mimi Granlund, Olivia Lee, Courtney Walker, Jordann Gilmer and Shelby Daly all had shots on goal for the Lutes.
PLU hosts Willamette at noon on Friday and George Fox at noon on Saturday in its final two matches of the season.
