PARKLAND - LeMar Anglin made a pair of free throws with 1.4 seconds left in the game on Friday night to lead the visiting Pacific Boxers to a heart-stopping 65-63 victory over the host Pacific Lutheran Lutes in the Northwest Conference men's basketball opener for both teams in Olson Auditorium.

Anglin, a 6-5 senior post player from Chicago, scored the final two of his game-high 29 points after being fouled while trying to get off what would have been an attempt at the game-winning shot. After two PLU timeouts, he calmly sank the first shot. After a Pacific timeout, he attempted to miss the second but instead banked it in off the backboard.

That gave the Lutes (1-4 overall, 0-1 conference) an opportunity to call their final timeout and set up a final shot, but Cameron Reister's heave from just beyond the halfcourt line came up just short, tipping the bottom of the net.

The game was close throughout the first half with six lead changes and seven ties. Pacific led 11-6 early and PLU took a five-point lead at 33-28 later in the opening period. The game was knotted at 38-38 at the intermission after Kyle MacTaggart's three-point shot tied it with one second left.

Anglin scored 15 points in the first half on seven field goals and one free throw, while his 14 second-half points came on two field goals and 10 free throws.

In a second half that saw six lead changes and three ties, Pacific took a 10-point lead at 54-44 on a Cameron Hayes jumper with 9:48 remaining in the game. Over the next 6 1/2 minutes, the Lutes went on a 13-3 run, including six points from Andrew Earnest and four from Victor Bull, to tie the score at 57-57.

The lead switched five times in the final three minutes. Anglin converted a three-point play to put the Boxers on top, 63-61, with 1:31 left, and MacTaggart tied it with a pair of free throws with 1:13 on the clock.

After a missed Pacific jumper, the Lutes turned the ball over, giving Pacific 27 seconds to work for the final shot, setting up Anglin for his heroics.

Adam McElwee joined Anglin in double figures with 14 points, while Charles Mosley and Colin Wester both grabbed six rebounds to lead the Boxers in that category.

For the Lutes, Bull scored 12 points and grabbed six rebound, while Earnes added 10 points. The teams tied in rebounding with 35 apiece.

Both teams return to Northwest Conference action on Saturday night, the Lutes hosting George Fox and the Boxers playing at Puget Sound.
