Linfield Rolls to 5-2 Women's Soccer Win over PLU

PARKLAND - Jordann Gilmer scored a pair of goals for Pacific Lutheran, but Linfield proved to be the dominant force on Sunday as the visiting Wildcats scored a 5-2 Northwest Conference women's soccer win over the Lutes at the PLU field.

Gilmer, a senior transfer, put the Lutes (1-4-0 overall, 1-1-0 NWC) on top at 7:17 when she tapped in a cross from Brittney Bronson. Her second goal came just 55 seconds into the second half and tied the match at 2-2. The play started when Olivia Lee beat a defender down the left and crossed into Gilmer, who ripped a shot over the head of goalkeeper Kelsey Hasselblad and under the crossbar from about 10 yards out.

Both of the PLU goals came against the run of play, because Linfield (4-2-0, 2-0-0) controlled the action for the majority of the match. The Wildcats rolled up a 30-4 advantage in shots, putting 15 of their efforts on frame, and they also had a 15-0 margin in corner kicks.

After falling behind, the Wildcats tied it at 16:37 on Emily Fellows' 11th goal of the young season. She took a pass from Rennika Doty and hammered a shot into the upper corner of the goal from the top of the box. Linfield made it 2-1 at 34:58 when Anna Sours scored from about six yards in front of the goal after PLU keeper Lauren Chambard reached back and saved Julie Vaughan's goal-bound shot.

At the half, Linfield owned a 14-2 advantage in shots and had compiled five of their corner kicks. Still, the Lutes came right out and tied it on Gilmer's second goal as a Lute.

From that point on, Linfield kept the ball in its offensive end of the field for most of the remainder of the match. Rachel Miles made it 3-2 at 54:35, scoring on a centering pass from Fellows, who was set free down the left wing by Jenna Quiring. The score went to 4-2 at 73:49 when Megan Kearns scored from six yards out on the right side, with Fellows getting her second assist of the match. The final tally came at 78:42 with Stephanie Socotch heading home, the assist going to Emily Schulte.

Chambard finished the match with nine saves and the PLU defense cleared another potential goal off of the line. Hasselblad did not make a save in the match.
