Hoffman, Wall Earn Conference Recognition

Outfielder Jacob Hoffman and pitcher Scott Wall have earned Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors for their performances in PLU's three-game baseball sweep of Lewis & Clark last weekend.

Hoffman, a freshman from Curtis High School in nearby University Place, was 8-for-14 (.571 average) with four doubles, six runs scored and two runs batted in during the three games. He also stole three bases in as many attempts.

Wall, a senior from LaSalle High School in Yakima, improved his season record to 6-0 with a complete-game five-hitter in the Lutes' 3-1 Sunday afternoon victory. He retired the side in order in five out of nine innings.

Wall was previously honored as the NWC Pitcher of the Week back on March 8. Sophomore teammate Max Beatty earned the same honor on Feb. 15 and April 19, while another PLU pitcher, senior Dan Johansen, also garnered the award on April 5.

Pacific Lutheran, 18-14 overall, plays at 7 p.m. today against non-conference opponent Seattle University at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. The Lutes close out the conference portion of their schedule this coming Saturday and Sunday when they host the NWC champion Linfield Wildcats in a three-game series.
