ORANGE, Calif. - Pacific Lutheran scored in bunches in the first game and scored early and held on in the second game as it swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from host Chapman on Wednesday evening at El Camino Real Park.
The Lutes, who improved their season record to 19-9, pounded out 14 hits to win the opening game, 14-1, in five innings. In the second game, they scored single runs in the first four innings and made that stand up in a 4-2 victory over the Panthers, now 7-25.
Stacey Hagensen hit her seventh homer of the season and Katie Bologna made her first collegiate home run an inside-the-park job in the opening game. Kaaren Hatlen led the offensive parade with four hits, and she added a pair of RBI. Kaely Cuthill was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Hagensen was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
Hagensen improved her record to 11-4, allowing one unearned run on two hits in three innings. Ally VanSchoorl threw the final two innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out two.
Lindsey Matsunaga hit her fifth homer of the season in the second inning of the second game. The Lutes led 3-0 after three turns at bat when the Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the third. After getting another run in the fourth, the Lutes and pitcher Hatlen shut down the hosts the rest of the way.
Hatlen improved her record to 8-2, allowing eight hits while fanning three in her complete-game effort. Cuthill continued her hot hitting on the California road trip, going 2-for-3 in this game with a run scored. Ami Gran was the other PLU player with a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3.
