Lutes Earn 0-0 Tie Against Whitworth

SPOKANE – For the 10th time this season, the Pacific Lutheran women's soccer team held its opponent without a goal. Whitworth's defense was just as stingy, however, as the teams dueled to a scoreless tie Sunday afternoon.

The result pushes PLU's record to 6-3-5 overall and 4-1-5 in the Northwest Conference, while Whitworth goes to 6-6-3 and 3-5-3 in conference play. PLU will play the remainder of the 2013 regular season in the Tacoma area, as the Lutes return home next weekend to host George Fox and Lewis & Clark.

Whitworth maintained pressure on the PLU defense throughout the match, out-shooting the Lutes 21-to-9 overall and 8-to-2 in the overtime periods. Marisa Gonzalez played the first half in goal for PLU and tallied a pair of saves, while Takara Mitsui took over after halftime and saved five shots.

Kaylie Rozell led the way for the Lutes with six of PLU's nine total shots in the match, including one of PLU's two shots on-goal. Blake Warner had the Lutes' other on-target shot. Andrea Stump played all 110 minutes in front of the net for the Pirates, finishing with two saves.
