CLAREMONT, Calif. – Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored the first six points of the night and the Athenas pulled away to a 63-44 nonconference women's basketball victory over Pacific Lutheran Sunday afternoon at Linde Activities Center.
With the loss, Pacific Lutheran's record falls to 1-1 following the season-opening trip to California. The Lutes return to Tacoma for next weekend's Puget Sound Tournament, where they will take on Concordia-Moorhead on Friday at 2 p.m. and Saint Benedict on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Jori Hall led PLU with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and added five rebounds in 34 minutes of play. Megan Abdo added 11 points and seven rebounds as the Lutes shot 13-of-44 from the field and 16-of-24 from the free throw line.
Kimberly Scamman and Kailee Severt led the Athenas with 12 points apiece, while Claire Donnelly grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored the first six points before a pair of free throws by Sarah Barnes put the Lutes on the board. The Athenas scored the next six to take a 12-2 lead, and PLU didn't pull closer than six back the rest of the night. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps led 30-22 at halftime and out-scored PLU 33-22 in the second half.
