PARKLAND – Evergreen shot 63.2 percent in the first period to build a 22-point halftime lead and the Geoducks defeated Pacific Lutheran 80-53 in nonconference women's basketball action Saturday evening at Names Family Court.
Pacific Lutheran falls to 3-5 with the loss, while Evergreen improves to 6-3. The Lutes wrap up their nonconference schedule next weekend when they host California Lutheran on Dec. 21 at 2 p.m.
Bailey Raines led PLU with 12 points as 10 Lutes scored between three and six points in the game. Kaelyn Voss grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while Raines added five and Megan Abdo finished with a team-high three assists.
Four Geoducks reached double-figures in the scoring column and LaNiecia Weatherspoon and Sadee Jones posted identical 21-point, 12-rebound performances. Evergreen shot 63.2 percent from the field in the first half (12-of-19) and used a 19-of-20 first-half free throw performance to build a 46-24 halftime lead.
Pacific Lutheran finished the game with a .254 shooting mark (18-of-71), while Evergreen cooled in the second period to finish at 44.9 percent (22-of-49). The Geoducks finished the night with a 52-38 rebounding advantage and totaled 33-of-39 from the free throw line (84.6 percent).
