Pacific Lutheran softball takes a split to close out its Texas road trip

SEGUIN, Texas – Pacific Lutheran softball settled for a split with Texas Lutheran on Thursday, closing out its Texas road trip 2-6. The Lutes took the first game 4-3, but were unable to hold on to their two-run lead in the second game, surrendering a home run for a TLU 5-4 walk-off victory. PLU is now 7-17 while Texas Lutheran advanced to 18-6.

In the early game, the Lutes took a one-run lead in the third only to fall behind 4-1 as the result of a five-hit, three-run home half for the TLU Bulldogs. However, a three-run fifth inning for PLU put them ahead for good as Kelsey Robinson silenced the Bulldogs offense, allowing only three hits the rest of the way. Robinson pitched a complete game and collected her fourth win of the season. Katie Lowery led the Lute offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In the nightcap, PLU overcame a one-run deficit in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to take a 4-2 lead. With only two outs remaining, TLU put runners on first and second for Bulldogs' Jennifer Gallagher, who capitalized with a three-run homer to win the game for the Bulldogs. PLU's Leah Butters took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits. Tori Hamura had a three-hit outing while Emily McConnell went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

The Lutes return home on Saturday, jumping right back into conference play as they host Willamette in a doubleheader beginning at noon. On Sunday, Linfield will come to town for a twinbill also set for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
