Box Score

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Trevor Lubking picked up his third straight double-digit strikeout performance, but California Lutheran limited Pacific Lutheran to only three hits as the Kingsmen defeated the Lutes 3-0 in a nonconference baseball game Thursday afternoon at Ullman Stadium.

Lubking struck out 11 in seven innings to increase his Northwest Conference-leading season strikeout total to 72 in 56 innings. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits without a walk, taking his first loss of the season to fall to 4-1. In Lubking's last three starts he has allowed three earned runs on 14 hits in 24.1 innings with 37 strikeouts and four walks, but the Lutes have combined to score one run in 33 innings over those three games.

PLU falls to 13-9 overall this season, while California Lutheran improves to 17-5. The Lutes play Claremont-Mudd Scripps each of the next two days to wrap up their spring break trip to California, with Friday's game set to begin at 3 p.m.

The Kingsmen scored their first two runs in the bottom of the third, as they tallied three hits and took advantage of a PLU error in the frame. They added one more in the following inning on a pair of doubles. PLU's best scoring opportunities came in the first and seventh innings. In the first the Lutes put two aboard via a CLU walk and error, but stranded both runners. The seventh inning saw Collin Nilson stroke a leadoff double that bounced over the fence in center. A walk and hit batsman loaded the bases with two outs, but CLU starter Scott Peters got a strikeout to end the inning.

Peters improved to 4-1 with the win, limiting the Lutes to two hits in seven shutout innings. Aaron Roth pitched the final two frames for CLU to claim his sixth save of the season.
