PLU Cross Country runs at Puget Sound Invitational

LAKEWOOD – The Pacific Lutheran cross country teams opened the 2014 season at the Puget Sound Invitational on Saturday, running at Fort Steilacoom.

The PLU women took second in the team rankings with 46 total points. Host Puget Sound took first with 21 points, while Olympic College scored 71 points to take third. Lute runners Hannah Walton (25:40), Genevieve Brandt (25:42) and Shailee R. Woodard (25:44) finished seventh-through-ninth on the individual leaderboard as Puget Sound's Taili Ni placed first in the 6k race.

The men's 8k race saw the Lutes finish third with 69 points. Puget Sound runners took the top five spots to give the Loggers a first-place score of 15, while Trinity Lutheran took second with 54 points. Green River placed fourth (85) and Olympic College took fifth (139). Matthew MacFarlane was the Lutes' top individual placer, taking ninth with a time of 28:14. Egan Dunning placed 15th for the Lutes (29:08), followed immediately by Charles Mogen (29:08) and Brendon Bonnell (29:11).

PLU will not compete next weekend, but will return to action on Sept. 13 at the Central Washington Invitational in Ellensburg.
