Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pacific Lutheran baseball team swept a doubleheader against Texas-Dallas, picking up an 11-8 win in the opener before claiming a shortened 9-3 seven-inning victory in the nightcap Saturday at the Tucson Invitational Games.
Saturday's opener saw Texas-Dallas put five on the board in the first inning before the Lutes embarked on the comeback. PLU picked up three runs in the second inning as Kyler Blades drove in a pair on a two-out single. He brought home two more with another single to tie it up at 5-5 in the fifth inning.
The Lutes took an 8-7 lead into the top of the ninth before Jacob Clements came through with a bases-loaded double to clear the bases and put the Lutes up 11-7. Texas-Dallas added one more in the bottom of the ninth, but Jake Otness closed out the day on the mound with 3.2 innings of one-run relief to earn the save. Kyle Rossman started for the Lutes and pitched the first four innings, and Ty Donahou came on in relief to throw 1.1 innings and pick up the win in his first outing for the Lutes.
The second game saw more offense from the Lutes before darkness fell and ended the game at the end of the seventh inning. Kort Skoda pitched five innings to pick up the win, with Leif Hansen throwing the final two innings in relief. Skoda gave up a pair of runs, with Hansen yielding the Comets' final run of the day. Drew Oord had a pair of triples and drove in two runs, while Collin Nilson doubled twice and also drove in two and Ben Welch had an RBI triple.
Complete box scores for Saturday's games were not immediately available. Pacific Lutheran will close out its trip to Arizona Sunday with a rematch against La Verne. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
