Lutes' Rally for 12-6 Victory Over George Fox; Split Doubleheader

Box Score

Newberg, Ore. - The Lutes scored eight runs in the eighth inning and PLU pitchers struck out 15 George Fox batters to claim a 12-6 victory in game two of Friday's doubleheader.

The Lutes rallied from a 6-1 deficit to earn the win.

Drew Oord kick started the rally in the fifth inning with a single up the middle that plated two runs and brought the Lutes to within two, 6-4. He finished the day with three RBIs. Landon Packard went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and Kyler Blades continued his hot streak, driving in two.

"The difference is we had more competitive at bats in game two," PLU head coach Nolan Soete said. "We worked ourselves into more hitter friendly counts and we took advantage of pitches up in the zone."

Ty Donahou, Kyle Rossman, Lee Larson and Garrett Brown contributed to the 15 strikeouts. Larson (1-1) pitched one inning and picked up his first win of the season.

"Our relief pitchers came in and threw strikes," Soete said. "They really did a nice job keeping us in the game when we were down five."
