THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Tanner Zuber pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his Pacific Lutheran debut, but the Lutes were defeated by California Lutheran, 14-6.
"Tanner made his first appearance of the year and came in throwing strikes which was good to see," PLU head coach Nolan Soete said.
The Lutes jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning but the Kingsmen pushed across runs in six of the first seven innings to pull away from the Lutes.
"We hit well early in the game today," Soete said. "We did a good job of driving pitches that were left up in the zone."
Drew Oord drove in two runs for PLU while going 2-for-4 on the day. Landon Packard went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Connor Cantu had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Lutes. Tyler Thompson drove in a run on a fielders choice and Ben Welch had a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Lutes had additional opportunities to push runs across but left nine runners on base.
The Lutes trip continues with a pair of games at La Verne. Friday's game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
The final game of the Lutes four game California adventure will take place on Saturday, first
pitch is at noon.
