NEWBERG, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran men's soccer team (11-4, 7-2 Northwest Conference) defeated George Fox University this afternoon 3-0 on away turf.
"It was a good second day performance against a team that posed some tough problems for us to solve," said Head Coach
John Yorke. "We were again able to get solid performances from a large number of people."
The Lutes battled hard to score their first goal, with
Mason Joe finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season in the 39
th minute. The assist came from
Archie Caldwell and
Spencer Hokama.
Sam Ebner started off the second half in the 49
th minute with his first goal of the year with a header to the far post. The Lutes continued their dominance throughout the second half, with
Jaisen Zurfluh scoring the third and final goal of the game in the 79
th minute with a free kick.
Coach Yorke attributes the strong performance to two primary things, "our defending is continuing to get better, and we had the ball for a good portion of the game today."
The Lutes put more pressure on in the second half totaling seven shots on goal with a total of nine shots for the match. Goalie
RJ Noll had a strong game helping complete the shut out by saving the two Bruin shots on goal.
