#18 Lutes Steamroll Loggers to Sweep Season Series

TACOMA, Wash. - The 18th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team made quick work of host University of Puget Sound on Wednesday night, steamrolling the hosts 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-18) inside Memorial Fieldhouse.

"Wow! We came to play tonight," said Head Coach Kevin Aoki. "It was a good example of just playing, and it came at the right time. It was just an all around great team effort."

The Lutes (16-3, 9-2 Northwest Conference) wasted little time asserting their dominance, scoring the opening six points of the match and leading wire-to-wire in a 25-16 opening set win. The Loggers (11-8, 8-3 NWC) netted the first point of the second set but it was all PLU after that with the Lutes scoring the next four points and owning the lead the rest of the way in a 25-9 set win.

PLU never trailed in the third set, scoring five straight to seize a 10-5 lead en route to the 25-18 set win to secure the match.

Mackenzie Harris headlines the Lutes' offensive efforts, finishing with 14 kills on just 17 attacks while Chloe Epker netted 10 kills. Isabella Zubrod collected 21 assists and seven kills while Caylie Shiramizu had 10 digs.

Wednesday's victory gave the Lutes a clean sweep of the Battle of the South Sound against UPS. The Lutes bested the Loggers 3-0 back on Sept. 19 while also picking up a 3-0 decision at the expense of the Loggers in a non-conference tilt on Sept. 1.

"To play the Loggers three times and not allow them to take a set in a rivalry match is hard to do. We will build upon this victory for the rest of the season and look forward to hosting Willamette on Saturday."

The Lutes are back on the court on Saturday evening, hosting Willamette University at 5 p.m. in the first of three consecutive matches inside Olson Gymnasium.
