MILWAUKEE, Wis. - A pair of first half goals was more than enough for the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team on Saturday, blanking host Milwaukee School of Engineering 2-0 in a non-conference clash at Viets Field.
Â
"I was really happy with the guys and their response to being on the road in two different places in less than 24 hours against two tough opponents," said Head Coach
John Yorke.Â
Â
"Getting an early goal on a great little combination from Holton to Chris was really important. We put a lot of work in last night and it was really important to get good minutes from a lot of guys. Every field player played today and it was very much a team effort to get the win"
Â
It didn't take long for the Lutes (2-0) to get on the board with
Chris Trussel finding the back of the net just 42 seconds into the match.
Matt Koczan and Holtan Halfaker assisted on the score while
DJ Joe doubled PLU's advantage in the 33
rdminute with an unassisted score.
Â
RJ Noll tallied the clean sheet in goal, making four saves in 90 minutes of work. The Red Raiders' (0-2) had two keepers split time in net, combining for three saves.Â
Â
"RJ made a big save to preserve the shutout late in the game and DJ got his first collegiate goal. It was really cool to see the guys overcome some tough obstacles and challenges and grind through for a tough win."
Â
The Lutes close out their tour of the Cheese State on Monday with a 7:30 p.m. (Central) clash with Carroll University.Â
