WAUKESHA, Wis. - Archie Caldwell came off the bench and provided the lone goal of the night, giving the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team the 1-0 victory over host Carroll University to close out the squad's three game tour of Wisconsin undefeated.
"We're really happy with the trip. It's a long trip but we got a lot out of it," said Head Coach
John Yorke.
"We're very pleased with two shutouts and the growth of our defending, especially the back line. Also the fact that five different guys scored goals on this trip is really promising."
Caldwell proved to be the spark off the bench the Lutes (1-0) needed on Monday, collecting his first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute off a feed from
Spencer Hokama.
That goal proved to be more than enough for the Lutes as the defense clamped down on the host Pioneers (0-2) to net the squad's second shutout of the season.
"Archie is going to be a really good forward for us as he continues to gain confidence and grow in the game. Him getting his first goal today and a game-winner as a bonus was really cool."
Cole Weaver and
RJ Noll combined for the shutout in net, each seeing 45 minutes of action between the posts. Their counterpart, Connor Thompson finished with three saves in the losing effort.
"Our seniors have been great examples for our younger guys on this trip and I can't say enough about their contributions so far. Obviously there is a lot of season left to go and we still have a ton of work to do but we can be excited for tonight about a 3-0 road trip."
The Lutes return to the pitch on Friday afternoon, welcoming Brooklyn College to East Field.
