League Leading Lutes Host Linfield on Saturday

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team will look to sustain its winning streak this weekend as they host the Wildcats of Linfield College on Saturday.

The Lutes (9-1-1, 7-0 NWC) are riding high after defeating the University of Puget Sound 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to a goal by forward Leah Magee in the 17th minute. This marks the eighth straight win for the Lutes as well as the eighth clean sheet recorded. The Lutes were coming off a strong performance last weekend in Oregon as they defeated George Fox University 2-0 and Willamette University 4-1.

"I think we felt really inspired this weekend which helped us overcome two tough teams in George Fox and Willamette," said senior forward Leah Magee. "It was our second weekend trip to Oregon, and we knew that we couldn't cut any slack to either team. Both teams are formidable, but we knew what we wanted, and we knew that it would take a whole team effort to be successful. All we did was play our style."

After scoring against George Fox, Willamette, and Puget Sound, Magee has reached seven goals and four assists on the season already.

"It felt good to get on the scoresheet this past weekend, but a lot of the credit goes to the team. All of our goals and successes are team efforts and I appreciate the team giving me these opportunities."

Magee has relished the opportunity to play alongside first-year forward Meghan Michels, who also has seven goals on the season thus far. Magee and Michels currently sit tied atop the NWC in goals, assists, and points.

"I'm very excited to be playing with Meghan! She's dynamic and obviously very effective in the attack. I'm really looking forward to what she brings to the forefront for the rest of the season!"

As her senior year is well under way, Magee has clear goals for the rest of the year both academically and athletically.

"I think I'm mostly looking forward to graduating but finishing out this season and helping take the team as far as possible into playoffs would make this year even better. I'm a psychology major with a minor in business. Hopefully I will be able to pursue organizational psychology and work in a business setting. My interest in this field came in my freshman year when I took a psych 101 course and kind of fell in love with it. I loved learning the ins and outs of people and how everyday interactions can effect everything."

Outside of athletics and academics, Magee enjoys hiking and anything involving music.

On Saturday the Lutes have a chance to extend their win streak to nine, which would be the program's longest win streak since joining NCAA Division III.

"It feels good of course to be on such a long win streak, but we have to remember the challenges are ahead of us and not to be too caught up in our record. As Seth always tells us, "we did what we had to do", and if we continue doing our individual jobs, we are going to be just fine against both opponents."

Series History:
The Lutes and Wildcats have met 70 times since 1981 with PLU holding a 45-22-3 edge in the all-time series. Last year, the Lutes won 1-0 in McMinnville and played to a 1-1 draw in Tacoma.

About the Wildcats: Linfield (5-5, 4-2 NWC) had a rocky start to league play but has since won three in a row, earning a sweep of the Whits last weekend. The Cats blanked Whitman College 3-0 before clipping Whitworth University 3-2.
