Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Moore Provides Game-Winner to Keep PLU Unbeaten

SALEM, Ore. – After tying Willamette University 13 days ago at East Field, the Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer team remained at the top of the of the Northwest Conference standings with an impressive 2-1 victory in Oregon.

"I was very pleased with the mental and physical effort from the boys today," said PLU Head Coach John Yorke.  "Willamette is a good team and it is hard to win at their place.  The guys had a great approach to the game and we were able to take some of the things we worked on in training this week and apply them to the game.  There were excellent contributions from our guys who came in as substitutes and I was really happy with the whole team effort."

Less than two minutes before halftime, freshman Dane Helle scored his second goal of the season to put the visiting Lutes ahead 1-0 at the break.  Archie Caldwell and Robby Guyer both picked up their second assists on the season on Helle's tally.  PLU thoroughly dominated the first half, securing the only corner kick and outshooting the Bearcats 7-2.

The home team wasted little time tying the score, beating the PLU defense just 2:49 in the second frame.  The Lutes, however, would not be denied three points on Saturday afternoon as Jackson Moore took a pass from Zachary Manao and put it past the Bearcat keeper to secure the game-winner.

Cole Weaver made three second-half saves to earn the victory in the net, while PLU held a slim 13-11 edge in shots.  Both teams registered four shots on net.  Emmanuel Saah was active on the offensive end for the Lutes with three shots on the day to match Moore.

With the victory, PLU improved to 9-3-2 on the season and 6-0-2 in Northwest Conference action.  The Lutes will look to extend their lead in the NWC race tomorrow when they head to Linfield College tomorrow for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
