TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran women's soccer team set a new school record on Sunday with their 13
th consecutive victory. The 4-0 drubbing of Pacific University improved the Lutes' record to 14-1-1 on the season and 12-0-0 in the Northwest Conference.
It took just 11 minutes for PLU to get on the scoreboard on Sunday.
Maddie Landreth booted a corner kick into the box, which was headed by
Brianna Hunting to
Ellie Johnson for Johnson's second goal of the season.
PLU added two more tallies in the first 45 minutes. Landreth made another great cross to
Tasha Tennyson for the Lutes' second goal in the 23
rd minute. Hunting added her first goal of the season in the 36
th minute when she picked up a loose ball off of a corner kick and booted it into the back of the net.
In the second half, senior star
Leah Magee banged in her eighth goal of the season after she dribbled past a few Boxer defenders and ripped a laser past the visiting keeper.
The Lutes dominated possession during Sunday's win and held the Boxers to just one total shot, which was blocked by a PLU defender. The defensive effort made things easy on keepers
Ashton Huppert and
Shaylin Cesar, who combined to make the Lutes' sixth straight shutout and 13
th of the season.
PLU had previously won 12 straight matches in 1987, 1988 and 1992, but this is the first 13-match winning streak in school history. Coupled with a tie by the University of Puget Sound, the Lutes now lead the Loggers by seven points with just four conference games remaining.
The red-hot Lutes will remain at home next weekend when they welcome George Fox University on Saturday and Willamette University on Sunday.
