Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lutes Increase Unbeaten Streak to 16

TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team, who has already won the 2019 Northwest Conference championship, increased its unbeaten streak to 16 matches and shut out its 15th opponent of the year after drawing with the University of Puget Sound 0-0 on Wednesday.

The first 45 minutes were dead even as both the Lutes and the Loggers produced five shots.  PLU, however, was more accurate with its chances as it led in shots on goal 3-1.  Cassidy Crosswhite made a diving stop to rob the Loggers' Ava Cholakian of a first half goal.

UPS controlled things in the second frame as they held a 4-1 advantage in shots, until it appeared that Ellie Johnson was finally going to get the Lutes on the scoreboard.  Her shot from the top of the box clanged off the cross bar with just over two minutes remaining.

Leah Magee kept the game tied just before Johnson's shot as she cleared a header by the Loggers at the goal line.

In the second overtime, the Lutes nearly won the game again, but UPS keeper Chaylea Tome was up to the challenge, denying Alyssa Carter's shot and Johnson's rebound.  In the chase for the second rebound, PLU was fouled just outside the box, but Carter's shot off the free kick sailed wide left.

Overall, the home team had a 14-10 edge in total shots and an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.  It was Cassidy Crosswhite's six shutout of the season.

PLU (16-1-2, 14-0-1 NWC) will close the regular season on Saturday at Linfield College.  Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
