Box Score Salem, Ore.. – It took five extra minutes, but the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team captured the win 50-49 over the Bearcats of Willamette inside Cone Field House.
"That was one of the more physical games we have played this season," said Head Coach
Jennifer Childress. "Proud of the way we battled through and kept our composure."
Outscored in the first quarter, the Lutes scored 14 unanswered points in the second on their way to a 23-16 lead going into the locker room.
"Kristen Sturdivan got out offense rolling in the 2
nd quarter hitting two threes that gave us a momentum swing we really needed. Holding them under 50 points was a big accomplishment on their home court. The cliché 'no cold nights on defense' proved true tonight."
Madison Salsibury powered the Lutes (11-7, 4-6 NWC) with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Kristin Sturdivan added 12 points draining three treys on the night.
Emma Janousek and
Anna Hurd each added eight points while
Katie Taylor contributed six points.
The Lutes are back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m., facing No. 14 George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon.
