Box Score 2 HILLSBORO, Ore. – The Pacific Lutheran University softball team continued a successful non-conference season start, earning a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Christian University, besting the Beacons 4-3 and 12-4.
"Today was a great opportunity for our team to dig deep and find a way to grit out two wet, cold games," said Head Coach
Traci Barrett. "In the first game, we had a slow offensive start, but Kennedy led the 6th inning off with a double, and Sam Simondsen followed that up with a 2-run shot to go ahead by 2 runs. Kennedy had a solid game in the circle only allowing 4 hits."
GAME ONE
The Lutes (7-3) were down 2-0 when
Chaella Galapon find the gap in left center to drive in
Raynna Mekaru.
Becca Sorensen drove in Galapon to tie the game. Heading to the sixth, a two run homer by
Samantha Simundson gave the Lutes the 4-3 win.

Kennedy Robillard collected the win inside the circle, pitching all seven innings giving up four hits and striking out two.
GAME TWO
Kathryn Hatlen led the offense as the Lutes piled on the runs in the mercy rule victory. A single from Hatlen drove in Galapon and Sorenson to start the scoring followed by a Simundson driving in two more with a double. A double from
Marley Dyer scored two to make it 6-0 going into the 2
nd.
The Lutes added two in the bottom of the end on an
Anna Overland double and a bad throw to make it 8-2. While Northwest Christian added two more runs, but an explosive with four additional runs scored sealed the win for the Lutes.
"Our hitters continue to focus on their plate approach and that paid off big in the second game. Delaney Salter drew a 2-out walk that sparked a stretch of offense and allowed us to get the 8 runs needed to end the game after 5 innings."
"We had some great defensive plays by Becca Sorensen and Chaella Galapon. We will spend the week working hard on tightening up our defense and preparing for conference play."
The Lutes open up Northwest Conference play next weekend at Lewis & Clark College.
